Ecovidrio began operating in 1998 all around Spain. It is the collective system of Extended Producer Responsibility for glass packaging waste, it is non-profit and a member of EXPRA. It performs 5 main functions: carrying out on selective collection, monitoring treatment operations and fostering high quality recycling, designing awareness campaigns for citizens and horeca professionals, selling glass material to glass factories and develop eco-design and prevention programmes. All these actions in the most efficient and effective way, and fostering sustainability throughout the entire recycling chain. Ecovidrio has set a 90% collection for recycling target by 2025, and will work with packagers, glass manufacturers (ANFEVI), glass processors and municipalities to achieve this.
