Research on the Extra Effort Required for each Inhabitant in the EU to Achieve a 90% Target 2022 Data
The #ClosetheGlassLoop research on the extra effort required for EU inhabitants to achieve a 90% glass collection for recycling rate has yielded updated findings for 2022.
The #ClosetheGlassLoop research on the extra effort required for EU inhabitants to achieve a 90% glass collection for recycling rate has yielded updated findings for 2022.
Here are our main findings:
- Across the European Union, each citizen would need to collect an additional 4.11 kilograms of glass packaging to reach the 90% collection for recycling target.
- Portugal presents the greatest opportunity for improvement, with a current collection rate significantly below the 90% target. Given their strong commitment to closing the glass loop through Plataforma Vidro+, we anticipate a substantial increase in collection rates in the near future.
- Belgium, Slovenia and Finland have now been joined by Sweden and Denmark in the list of countries achieving more than 90% glass collection for recycling. These front runners show us that it’s possible!
It’s important to note that while reaching the 90% target is challenging, maintaining that level consistently is even more difficult.
